| 内容記述 | Although mouthguards’ （MGs’） importance in the prevention of sports-related maxillofacial and dental injuries is both well established and frequently emphasized, evaluation methods of MGs’ eff ects on athletic performance vary, so these eff ects must be interpreted cautiously. Therefore, promoting MG use from an injury prevention perspective is important. However, the rate of MG use has been reported to be low in some sports. In response, the Health Action Process Approach（ HAPA）, a behavioral theory, has been used to suggest that social support（ SS） could help promote MG use. Therefore, this study examined the impact of SS in HAPA on MG use by developing a scale to assess SS for MG use behavior and by conducting model verifi cation. Internet Survey participants included 500 male athletes aged 18‒30 years （mean age 25.4 years, SD = 3.57） who use MG during sports practices and games. This survey included a face sheet（ demographic data）, a draft of 14 items this study developed for the social support scale related to the use of MGs, and an investigation of psychological factors constituting HAPA. Exploratory factor analysis, using Amos’s exploratory model specifi cation on the SS scale for MG use, extracted a two-factor, 12-item structure, and the SS scale’s reliability and validity demonstrated suffi cient values. To examine the eff ect of SS on MG use behavior in practice settings, the HAPA-SS was examined: the model fi t showed suffi cient values （GFI = .994, AGFI = .966, TLI = .989, CFI = .998, RMSEA = .038）, with the explanatory rate of MG use behavior in practice settings at R2 = .044. SS may promote behavioral intentions and action plans, both components of HAPA, thereby increasing the use of MG during practice. Thus, future MG promotions must not leave MG usage behavior only to competition rules and athletes themselves but also include athletes’ environments（ e.g., social supports）. | |||||||||
